Happy Birthday! 125 Vienna Giant Wheel

Today, 125 years later, it is the oldest surviving Ferris wheel in the world. This anniversary year will be celebrated together with all Viennese and all tourists in the coming months with a variety of offers!

A completely new, different and unprecedented Ferris wheel driving experience will be presented from April. Visitors looking for a special adrenaline rush can enjoy a detached and exciting feeling of heights on a breezy ride on a steel construction with a glass floor on a specially built platform, as only the designers in 1897 had experienced during the construction of the Vienna Ferris wheel.

When the trees in the Prater blossom in spring, the Wiener Riesenrad turns into a super booth for one night. In partnership with the "Superbude", a hotel with a young, modern philosophy in the immediate vicinity of Vienna's Prater, carriage no. 28 is being converted into a hotel room. As part of a social media competition held in April/May in cooperation with the international Vienna Tourist Board, one lucky winner will be able to spend a night in the "Room with a view - for real".

June/July: "125 YEARS VIENNA ferris wheel birthday week"

As part of the completion of the construction of the Wiener Riesenrad, the last screw was fixed on June 25, 1897. On July 3, 1897, the Wiener Riesenrad was officially opened. These dates will be resurrected for all visitors from June 25, 2022 for one week until July 2, 2022 and are all about tradition - interpreted in a modern way. In cooperation with the theater ensemble "Nesterval", the "Ferris Wheel Ride" experience will be made tangible again for all visitors as part of an immersive production, just as it was in 1897 and the following eras.
In the course of this experience, visitors will meet personalities who come from different epochs in the history of the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel: Emperor Franz-Joseph, the designer Walter B. Basset, but also Siegmund Freud, Romy Schneider or Falco and many more will become their very personal Make history and stories related to the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel and the Prater come alive again during the visit.

A proverb says: "If you haven't taken a ride on the Ferris wheel in your life and never enjoyed the wonderful view over the roofs of Vienna, you've never really been in Vienna!"
